Three Things Thursday

Hello lovelies!

Happy Friday Eve!

In traditional Thursday style (on those Thursdays when I have anything interesting to tell you, anyway) here's a list of three things currently floating my pedalo:

1. Endorphins
Don't panic, people; this blog isn't about to become a health and fitness focused stream of kale-based smoothies and fitbit reviews (those Thinspiration Pinterest quotes can continue to bite me). I have, however, exercised twice this week in a bid to escape my cartoon storm cloud. I think my thighs have gone into shock.

On Saturday I went for a full-pelt run, spurred on by a combination of power ballads and the fact that my leggings kept falling down- I basically had to keep running to spare poor unwitting pedestrians a flash of unnecessary flesh. Today I was overcome with an urge to go swimming. God knows why, as it's basically bathing with a bunch of strangers, but I persevered (despite feeling cold and wanting to get out after 5 minutes) and swam until I turned pruney. A fact I'm using to justify a dinner involving cheese, triple carbs, mayonnaise, and another one of these cheesecakes... Oops.

At least I got to wear my tropical bikini,
which almost made swimming enjoyable.

2. Libraries
Can we all please take a moment to appreciate how lucky we are that libraries (still) exist? I know I already said this in January, but access to unlimited free books is a truly magical thing, and something that I hope we can all continue to cherish for a long time to come. God knows, if I'd had to actually buy every book that I've ever read I'd've been forced to sell all of my organs on the black market by the time I was seven.

3. Aubergines A-go-go
I've actually saved the best 'til last today (or I certainly think so). I've always loved aubergines, but re-he-hearly can't be bothered with the whole slice-salt-bake palava to prep them. Then I made an AMAZING discovery, which has genuinely improved the rest of my life. And yours, unless you're one of those weirdos who doesn't like aubergine (/eggplant, to you non-Brits). Are you ready? Here we go:

AUBERGINES CAN BE COOKED IN THE MICROWAVE LIKE JACKET POTATOES!!!

I told you it was life-changing.

I baked the one above (model's own- just seen) in only seven minutes by stabbing it all over then microwaving it on the "jacket potato" setting. Then I filled it with leftover pasta sauce, some of these arancini, a handful of rocket and a dollop of coleslaw. Aside from the last one (a wild card addition, because it needed using up) it basically tasted like a slaved-over veggie moussaka. In seven minutes.

What have you discovered recently that's as good as Seven Minute Moussaka*?

*Trick question; nothing is.

  1. For me, going swimming or running is only ever done as an excuse to eat piles of food!

    1. Surely that's the only acceptable reason for any form of exercise? I certainly can't think of any others... xxx

  2. Oh my lord, libraries are the best! I popped into mine last week to check on reservations and came out with four books. It wasn't my fault, they were calling to me!

    1. Good work, Elise- it sounds like you're doing a brilliant job of keeping your local library in business :) xxx

  3. Hooray for libraries! And aubergines! And guinea pigs! (Because they look like aubergines, but don't put those in the microwave). I've really been enjoying swimming lately. Me and a nice chap looking like Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances seem to always be there at the same time, and there's a cosy, familiar sort of awkwardness about the whole thing. x

    1. Haha- I'd never noticed the aubergine/guinea pig resemblance, but you're totally right- definitely separated at birth! I just had to Google what Onslow looks like, as I've never seen KUA. He looks, erm, quite the character. I was swimming next to the same guy for quite a while. At one point we almost shared an eye roll about the kids who kept getting in our way, but I reigned mine back; there's only so much intimacy I can take with a lycra-clad stranger xxx

    1. You definitely should use yours Kezzie- it'll help you not to buy books during your anti-shopping challenge :)

I've sent you a letter, which includes an invite for a future visit next time you and CBC are in Brighton. If it's not rude to make your guests cook dinner, I will gladly take up the offer of sampling CBC's aubergine-based vittels xxx

  5. Oooh, i'll have to try and nuke an aubergine. You're a veritable font of information Katie! And Libraries. We are off to a ''write your own Horrid Henry story workshop'' next month at our library. Yeah. Rock and roll. You can't top that can you? xxx

    1. Do it, Emma-Kate; I can promise you'll never look back! That sounds marvellous, and yet another reason why libraries are so brilliant xxx

  6. Completely agree with the point about libraries - I love getting lost in a good book for hours and having free books only a 15 minutes' walk away is bliss. I need to try aubergines, I never have, but I hear they're yummy and full of good things, so I'll definitely get on it! - Tasha

  7. Yay for libraries! And yay again because they're so good! (in fact, let's just do thousands of yay's because they really do deserve it) :-) Never knew that about aubergines either, I've only ever chopped them up and fried them so I'll have to try them in the microwave next time, thanks for the tip! :-) xxx
