Three Things Tuesday

Hey sweetcheeks!

How's your week been so far? A basketful of awesome, I hope.

I've been LOVING the rain this week. No, seriously. Fo' real, y'all. Because rain means...

1. Pyjama-ing up at 4.15
Aka the second I get home from work. What?! The hem of my dress got slightly damp. Do you want me to catch pneumonia?!

2. Melty chocolate puddings
Need I say more?

3. Blankets, tea and a good book
I know these feature on nearly every one of my Good Things Lists but man do I love reading under a blanket. Over my legs, not blanket-fort style. Although now I really want to make a blanket fort.

Anyway, at Jen's recommendation I've started reading The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I started the prequel Glitches on Sunday evening and I've just finished Cinder, the first full novel. Each book is loosely based on a well-known fairy tale but, as the covers will testify, all is not as it seems...

Cinder is set against the backdrop of New Beijing, rebuilt after World War IV, and the eponymous heroine is definitely not the pastel-coloured, swooning damsel of fairy tales past. She's a mechanic, for a start, and her bestie is an android. We're basically the same person.

The characters are believable, the plot is fast-paced, and there are sufficient twists to make it a fresh update of the well-known original story. The best part about finding the series so late is not having to wait for the next instalment. With two novellas and two full novels left to read I'd best put the kettle on...

    1. Oh Gregory Maguire's COnfessions of an ugly step sister is really good by the way! He's the one who wrote Wicked - the life and times of the witches of Oz (the musical is based on it) which is NOT so good!

    2. It is indeed! Tell CBC to reconsider- these bowls are gorgeous. Perhaps I should have posted you some chocolate pudding :p xxx

  2. Your pj tee is cool (if that's it in the first pic)! There's been a lot of fairy-tale 'retellings', some waaaaay better than others. This sounds intriguing (liking the ultra futuristic twist). I'm a big fan of the Fables comics, which do the same thing so might be of interest to you :) x

    1. It is indeed- it's actually a regular t-shirt from H&M, but it's a bit too tight to wear out and about so PJs it is :p I've never actually read any comics but I really want to- perhaps I should start with those :) xxx

  3. I love getting PJ-ed as soon as I get home too! The chocolate pudding looks good and the book sounds an interesting read. I'm struggling to find time or energy for reading at the moment!

    1. There should be companies who deliver those kinds of things! Melty chocolate puddings are definitely as suited to deliveries as Dominoes pizza :p

That was me- well remembered! I hope you enjoy it! xxx
