Recently I've been...

Laughing
(inwardly) at how silly I must've looked yesterday while queuing behind two six-year-olds*/sitting in the window at Claire's Accessories getting my right lobe pierced. You'll be pleased to hear I was super brave and didn't cry; I even turned down the offer of cuddling the tiara-wearing teddy bear at the piercing station! Of course, that might have been more to do with the fact I'm 26 and not 6 - not that you'd know it from the earrings I purchased afterwards. Prepare yourselves for a saucy flash of earlobe, people:

In the eight years since my first piercing (where on earth has that time gone?!) I'd forgotten how much they sting afterwards. It's almost like you've been shot with a tiny bullet... Handily, a post-piercing lunch date presented the perfect opportunity for a "medicinal" cider, to act as an anaesthetic.

Reading
The Stars' Tennis Balls by His National Treasuryness Stephen Fry, borrowed from my local library as part of my genius plan to single-handedly prevent its closure by borrowing two books per week. I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it turned out to be absolutely gripping. The character development is fantastic, with the occasional gory details written in such an off-hand way that they seem to sneak up on you. I'd highly recommend it.

I've also been reading loads of beautiful (fre)ezines via Issuu (which I recently discovered thanks to Louisa at Duck in a Dress) - a website which lets you read literally thousands of gorgeous online magazines, covering every subject you could possibly imagine, for absolutely nothing!

Spending

Fifteen English Pounds on the best top I've ever seen in the Sugarhill Boutique Outlet in Brighton. My visit went a little something like this:

During my shopping expedition I was also very excited to discover that my long-time online love (purely in the retail sense - I'm not having a cyber-affair!) Oliver Bonas now has a shop in Brighton! I had a gleeful rummage through the sale section and snapped up this bargainous necklace for £8 instead of £28 :)

What have you been up to this week?

P.S. I'm linking up once more to lovely Hannah's TWTWC, which is being hosted by Aby at You Baby Me Mummy this week because Hannah is currently on her Hen Do!

TWTWC
*I worked this out from the date tattooed on the back of one mother's neck; assuming it's her kid's birthday and not just a date she needed to remember in 2008, perhaps for a dentist's appointment.

  2. The Stephen Fry book sounds interesting and what a great find the unicorn top was! I didn't realise you only had one ear pierced until now, I've read that post too!

  3. I am also single-handedly attempting to keep my local library open by randomly borrowing books.
Hilarious post by the way! x

  4. I love Stephen Fry (don't we all?) and I'll certainly keep an eye out for that book. Your week sounds lovely apart from the stinging ear. Still, it's all worth it when you can have golden tigers walking through your ear. I've been wading through the post holiday washing pile equipped with the slowest washing machine on the planet. I may be gone for some time... xxx

    1. Absolutely- it'll definitely be worth the pain once I can adorn my lobes with twin tigers! Good luck with the washing! xxx

Oohbook sounds good! Ahrgh, earrings- I STILL remember the pain and anxiety aged 5 when I was taken to the jewellers and SHOT in the ear with a gun!!!x

    1. That must have been a rather anxious event - I felt a little nervous and I knew what was happening! I love Sugarhill Boutique, but find a lot of their clothes are a bit oddly proportioned (or maybe I am :p) xxx

  8. Hurrah for managing not to cry during your ear piercing! and good call on the earrings - I have similar ones from Claires, they're little frogs and their back legs hang off the back of the lobe. I'm 28 but you're never too old for frog earrings (or tiger ones for that matter!) Good old Stephen Fry, honestly if he wasn't so lovely I'd hate him for being good at, well, absolutely everything. Cute necklace and at that price it would've been a crime not to buy it :)

    1. Hi Joy! Thanks for stopping by and leaving such a lovely comment. I completely agree that one is never too old for novelty earrings- I plan on rocking these til I'm in my eighties :) I totally know what you mean about Stephen Fry- he's just too darn talented (and gets paid to hang out with Alan Davies- jammy so-and-so!) xxx

  10. Great post! Congrats on getting your ears pierced. I remember I got mine done when I was 6 by our hairdresser and my parents had to pin my down so they could get the second ear pierced. Since I have let them 'close up'. :)

  11. Wowsers, they're definitely one pair of pretty cool earrings! I imagine they give off a little bit of a 'don't mess with me' attitute - which can only be a good thing confidence-wise :-)
Thanks for the shout out as well - although I might not have been a good thing discovering Issuu as I've wasted far too much time browsing other people's beautiful homes and not enough time playing with my own! :-) xxx
